Parental and Childcare Leave

Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL)


What is it?

Working fathers, including those who are self-employed, are entitled to paternity leave benefits under this scheme, capped at $2,500 per week.

  • Child born from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016 – 1 week
  • Child born from 1 January 2017 – 2 weeks


Am I eligible?

  • Your child is a Singapore citizen.
  • Only your child’s biological father or adoptive father, whose name is on the child’s birth certificate, is eligible.
  • The father has to be lawfully married to you, the mother, either:
    • At time of conception
    • Sometime between conception and child’s birth
    • Within 12 months of child’s birth
  • Single adoptive fathers with formal intent to adopt on or after 1 January 2017 are eligible for 2 weeks of GPPL.
  • The father has worked for at least 3 months in the 12 months prior to the child’s birth.
