Government-Paid Maternity Benefit (GPMB)


What is it?

Mothers who are not eligible for Government-Paid Maternity Leave (GPML) due to the employment requirements—especially those who are under short-term employment—may still qualify for benefits under the Government-Paid Maternity Benefit (GPMB) scheme.

  • 1st and 2nd child: 8 weeks income reimbursed. Capped at $20,000.
  • 3rd and subsequent child: 16 weeks income reimbursed. Capped at $40,000.


Am I eligible?

  • Your child is a Singapore citizen.
    • If your child is not a Singapore citizen at birth, he/she has to obtain citizenship within 12 months of birth. The leave benefits will be given once your child obtains citizenship
  • Your child was born on or after 1 January 2017.
  • You have worked for at least 90 days in the 12 months prior to your child’s birth.
